Ireland, 1966. An ordinary skipper sails into Dingle Bay with a very unusual catch…

What follows is a ridiculous series of events, involving Eamon De Valera, Queen Elizabeth, and a whole bunch of nuns

An unbelievable true story, Catch of The Day is a riotous romp of a play that tackles the tense history of Anglo-Irish relations with a unique mash-up of live music, comedy and theatre, built from the testimonies of those who remember. Bring your mates and your mammy, grab a pint, and get ready for one craic-ing night out.

Catch of The Day consistently toured from 2018 – 2022 and welcomed approximately 4700 audience members over its lifetime. Following an award nominated run (Best New Musical) at Edinburgh Fringe in 2018, it returned to Dingle for some particularly special performances, before embarking on several UK and Ireland tours. Venues included: Jericho Tavern in Association with The North Wall (2019), The Finborough Arms (2019), Vaults Festival (2019), County Kerry Ireland Tour (2019), National UK Tour (2021 produced by ‘house’ for rural theatres including subsidised tickets) venues include: Queen’s Theatre Hornchurch, The Theatre Chipping Norton, Wells Maltings, Worthing Theatres, Ventnor Exchange, Norden Farm, The Garage Norwich, The Old Fire Station Oxford and more), Smock Alley Theatre Dublin (2022) and Soho Theatre (2022).

The community of Dingle

Catch of the Day was only possible due to John Brosnan, Maureen Welch, Ricky Keane, and their wonderful families. They welcomed us into their homes, shared their stories, and trusted us to to tell them. We're forever grateful for their generosity, hospitality, and kindness.

You can see their portraits here.

Thank you too to the wider community of Dingle and Country Kerry, specifically Johnny McGuire at Bricín, Maunza at Dingle Traditional Rowing, everyone at Leac a' Ré, Mícheál Collins and his fellow organisers at Féile na Bealtaine, and Malcolm George at The Beehive.
